The dynamic Greater Little Rock real estate market and the local economy continue to outperform other areas of the country during what has been described as the worst recession since the Great Depression. In the October 22, 2009 issues of BusinessWeek in an article entitled "The U.S. Metros Least Touched by Recession" by Prashant Gopal, they report the following:

"America's strongest economies have one things in common-home prices that never got too hot or too cold. Home prices in metros such as San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh, Rochester, Little Rock, Ark., and Baton Rouge, La., remained steady through the boom and bust. Although no metropolitan area entirely avoided the economic downturn, the most resilient metros were protected by a potent mix of recession-resistant jobs."

Citing data compiled and analyzed by the Brookings Institute, a nonprofit Washington think tank, the overall ranking of the Little Rock-North Little Rock area in BusinessWeek listing of the "Forty Strongest U.S. Metro Economies" was number 4.
